Shadowclub
The group was founded in 2007 after the dissolution of the band Airship Orange. Wanting to eschew their previous incarnation's complex style for something a little rawer and in your face, they looked to emulate the D.I.Y. sonic firepower of artists like the White Stripes and Wolfmother and infuse it with the dusty grit of classic post-war blues. The band issued their debut long-player, Guns and Money, in 2011.
The LP featured the hit singles "Good Morning Killer" and "Guns and Money," and took home the 2012 South African Music Award (Sama) for Best Rock Album. Their sophomore effort, the Sama-nominated Goodbye Wild Child, arrived in 2013 and included the Top 40 hit "Melanielectriclove." Shadowclub spent the next few years touring relentlessly. After taking a few years off to deal with their personal lives, the trio returned to the studio with renewed vigor and recorded the EP Big Green Mamba Dream, which was issued in 2018.
